“And today the bad guys win, cause he turned his cape in. Now he says, ‘Yes I'll turn my back on this world…’ ” Resignation Superman: Big head Todd and the Monsters, Beautiful World
Comic books never really were a huge influence in my life or world, nor were the associated movies (Though God bless Christopher Reeve!). That being said, this song struck me musically and lyrically when I first heard it. A friend of mine gave me the album to listen to. I put the CD in and sat quietly waiting for it to start. And wow- this powerful chord opens up and beckons the bank in on queue. It’s got a great progression and a driving beat. It’s not an album to buy, but a song to have for sure.
I love the notion that the world relies at times on the few to carry and save the masses. And what happens then those few decide they don’t want to help anymore. I am not talking about the literal super heroes in the comics, but the people we idolize every day. They are after all human just as you and I.
Will the world collapse when Oprah’s show ends? No. She’s done absolutely amazing things for this world. But the truth of the matter is that we all have the exact same capabilities as she does. She- nor any of the other “super heroes” we idolize do not have a super genetic design. She simply had faith in herself and applied herself. Oh if we could all be so brave, what a world this would be!
*** Artist Notes *** I wanted to capture this in an alley as this is often the setting where Super Heroes seem to change clothes. I also wanted the cape in the shot (since I do not own a Superman T-shirt), and thought how Superman would literally resign? No better way than a letter addressed to the world!
Lyrics: He'll come flying out of this town, A resignation superman, And today the bad guys win, Cause he turned his cape in, Now, he says, Yes I'll turn my back on this world, Yes I'll turn my eyes from this world, Oh well... Yes he's tired of fighting in this town, All the suffering and vice, He wants to fall in love, Maybe settle in and live a life, And I'll turn my back on this world, Yes I'll turn my eyes from this world, Oh I want to believe in you now that I'm suffering. Oh lord, I need to receive your hand in my heart. And he keeps an eye upon this town, The resignation superman, He'll keep himself amused, With the evening news, Oh my... And I'll turn my back on this world, Yes I'll turn my eyes from this world, Now I broke my back on this world, Now I'll wash my hands of this world, Oh I want to believe in you now that I'm suffering. Oh lord, I need to receive your hand in my heart.
Haha, this is defenitely a funny photo but yet has a deeper meaning behind it in a way. ^^ Neat idea- I wouldn't -never- thought of something like that.

I gave my heart to know wisdom, And to know madness and Folly; I perceived this also to be vexation of the spirit. ~Love without pain isn't really romance.~
When it comes down to it, no one can save us but ourselves. We look outside ourselves because it seems like such an immpossible job. It's not. It's merely inconvenient. It keeps us from sitting on the couch watching American Idol and eating Cheeze Whiz straight from the can. Good for Superman! Save yourself, Clark Kent, and let humanity get off the couch and save themselves for a change!
Wait, wait, wait... cheeze whiz from the can is a bad thing? Damnit why didn't anyone tell me... they should put labels on cans that tell us these things! Good to see you commenting! Thanks!
